15-year-old Anna’s sure her mom, a former teen pop star, has lost her mind. She has to have since she’s just dragged Anna all the way from California to Maine, a few miles from the spot where Anna’s father, a survivalist who’s spent Anna’s entire life teaching her to survive everything from a zombie apocalypse to off-grid camping, went missing a few months before.The entire resort town’s empty and shuttered, and being alone there with a mother that’s probably gone insane is not at all what Anna wants to do. Home gets further away though after her mother tells Anna she has to be the one to find her missing and presumed dead father then pushes her through a hollow in a tree.Anna finds herself alone and terrified in a strange world until she’s joined by Dulsa, a recent escapee from a pirate ship. Dulsa’s a Sheaver, a trained assassin and at 16 she has a lot of kills under her belt. She’s also Anna’s only hope for survival when they end up running from those pirates and right into more trouble. Things just get stranger and more dangerous all the time as Anna discovers that she’s a Traveler, one who can walk through the worlds that sit alongside her own world. And Travelers are killed on sight on order of a mysterious and ancient Traveler who’s stolen the heart of the tree that her mother sent her into that world through. A Traveler who has already caused the world she’s in to fall, and who will cause more worlds to fall, if he isn’t stopped.Anna and Dulsa rescue Hanina, one capable of earth magic, and Merriam, a sea siren before setting off on together on an adventure that will force each of them to face their darkest fears and hone their skills.The war to save not just Anna’s world but ALL worlds has begun and Anna and her friends will have to decide whether to run, or stand.
